Cortical hyperostose is a disease characterized by abnormal thickening of the bones in the cortical layer (in the harsh part of the head). Caffey disease, usually seen infantile period (infantile cortical hyperostose) is associated with symptoms such as soft tissue swelling, irritability and fever. Radially, periosteal new bone formation and cortisal thickening are monitored in affected bones. This condition is usually self-flated, but it can rarely lead to permanent deformities.
