Guillain-Barré syndrome is an acute inflammatory disease that affects the peripheral nervous system, often occurs after an infection. As a result of the attacking the immune system accidentally into the nerve cases, muscle weakness and reflex loss develops. Typically, powerlessness starting in the legs can affect the arms and respiratory muscles by transmitting upwards. Prognosis with early diagnosis and plasmaferesis or intravenous immunoglobulin treatment is generally good.
