Mioonic dystrophy is a genetic disease characterized by long-term contraction (myooni) and progressive muscle weakness in muscles. Autozomal indicates dominant inheritance and occurs as a result of abnormal increase of recurrent nucleotide sequences in DMPK gene. The disease is divided into two main sub-types, including type 1 (Steinert disease) and type 2 (proximal mioonic myopathy).
