Normosit / normocyte
Normosit is a mature erythrocyte with normal size and shape (alyuvar). The diameter is about 7-8 micrometer and shows a pale central area (organtral pale) in the spread of peripheral blood. It creates a large majority of erythrocytes in circulation in healthy individuals and indicates that oxygen carrying capacity is normal. Anemia is used as reference cell in the differential diagnosis of conditions such as normocytic anemia.
