In plasticides such as chloroplasts, this membrane distinguishes from cytoplasm with the organ and contains porin proteins that regulate the passage of the substance. The outer membrane creates the plasticid envelope together with the inner membrane and plays a role in the transportation of proteins served in metabolic processes such as photosynthesis. Clinically, damage of this membrane can lead to dysfunction in plant cells, but there is no direct equivalent in human anatomy.
