Proteazom çekirdek kompleksi, alfa-altbirim kompleksi; the alpha-subunits of the proteazom core complex are structural components that form the outer ring of 20S proteazomun responsible for protein destruction in the cell. This alpha-subunits acts as a gate that regulates the introduction of substrates into proteazom and plays a role in the recognition of incorrect folded or damaged proteins. Clinically, mutations or dysfunctions in the alpha-subbirim complex are associated with situations where the protein homeostasis such as neurodegenerative diseases and cancer is disturbed.
