Somitomer is the temporary structures of segmental arranged, originating from mezoderm during embryological development. These structures, seen before the formation of somit in the head and neck area, contribute to the development of ranial nerves and faringeal arcus. Each somitomer contains the pioneers of muscle and connective tissue and does not show marked segmentation unlike the somites. Clinically, abnormal development of somitomers can be associated with diabetic malformations.
